CK Martial Hearts FAQ

We get emailed a lot of questions with regards to our martial arts programs in China.

Listed below are some of the most common ones. Click on the tabs to read the answers.

Yes. Our Warrior’s Way bootcamps are held inside the actual Shaolin Temple, located in Henan Province, considered to be the birthplace of formalised Chinese kung fu and Zen Buddhism.

Daily kung fu training takes place inside the temple walls, while accommodation is in the nearby village of Wangzhigou, 10 minutes walk from the temple gate.

More information on where we train, how we get there, and the surrounding area, can be seen here.

Our programs are designed for anyone with an interest in Chinese life, kung fu or culture. You don’t need any martial arts experience, a certain fitness level, or even need to speak Chinese!

And if you do, these programs are just as suitable. Our teachers and coaches can adjust their teaching styles, so if you already have experience, you can get even more out of the time you spend with us. The only requirement is that you are respectful of Chinese life and culture, are prepared for disciplined instruction, and are committed to giving 100% effort during your time on the programs.

And if you’re a teacher, please Contact Us about special group programs and discounts.

No. You don’t need any previous experience in kung fu. All our programs are designed to be accessible to everyone, no matter their previous martial arts experience.

In order to ensure the best possible experience for all our participants, places on all our programs are limited to 10 participants.

On our main programs, all students must be at least 14 years old. However, those under 17 must be training with a parent or guardian. On our Rising Warrior program, the age limit is reduced to 9 years old.

All our training programs offer a variety of experiences, including kung fu training, applications training, sightseeing visits to places of interest in the surrounding scenic areas and cultural activities.

Full program itineraries and details can be seen here.

Our programs are open to everyone, no matter their health or current fitness level. However, students should be aware that these programs are demanding, both physically and mentally.

In 2019, CK Martial Hearts will be running several Warrior’s Way programs at the Shaolin Temple. And in 2020, we have new programs coming in addition to Warrior’s Way!

Exact dates for 2019 and 2020 can be seen here and here.

While far from an exhaustive list, we can recommend you bring:

Comfortable shoes suitable for martial arts training such as plimsolls or Feiyue (which you can also buy near the temple)
Any snacks you can’t live without

At this time, our company doesn’t offer insurance for this program. If you don’t have medical insurance, you will be expected to sign a waiver before being allowed to start the program.

For the majority of our programs, the food is simple, light Chinese fare, including eggs and congee for breakfast and noodles, vegetable, meat and tofu dishes for lunch and dinner.

If you have special requirements regarding food, it may be possible to cater for them, but please let us know as early as possible.

On our Warrior’s Way programs, during the day, there is a doctor on duty at the temple who can take care of any immediate minor problems. For more serious situations, large hospitals are available within Dengfeng City. Do bear in mind however, that the quality of care will be on a level you would expect in rural China. Travel and health insurance is strongly recommended for any travel within China.

If you have your own travel plans, and wish to meet us somewhere other than Beijing, that can be arranged. However, all multi-day program participants must be at Shaolin for the first day of the program. Please Contact Us to discuss those arrangements further.

.As we offer these programs to participants from all around the world, it is currently not possible for us to provide such package tours. But at CK Martial Hearts, we want to be able to provide you with the best experience possible. So if we can help in any way with suggestions or advice, please just ask. We are more than happy to help!

For the past 4 years, CK Martial Hearts has consistently offered the most unique, in depth and truly life-changing martial arts programs available in China, as our past participants can testify. For example, while others may take you to areas around the Shaolin Temple, to train at ‘associated’ schools, we are the only company that offers these unique experiences inside the genuine Shaolin Temple, with actual Shaolin warrior monks.

Plus, our multi-day programs include all travel between Beijing and the training location, all food, all accommodation, all training, a native English-speaking guide, and even clothes to train in, all for one price.
