Learn kung fu at the Shaolin Temple in 2017

2016 was a fantastic year for CK Martial Hearts and the participants on our Shaolin Kung Fu Programs. But just as with all true martial-hearted individuals, CK Martial Hearts is dedicated to pushing further, and finding ways to keep improving and helping the people who join us get even more out of their time at the Shaolin Temple.

So read on to see what you can expect to get out of training with us in 2017!

2016 Retrospection

Everyone we took to experience kung fu at the Shaolin Temple in 2016 was an exceptional individual, each with their own reasons for travelling with us to the Song Shan mountains, and each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. What they all had in common was their desire to experience training real kung fu under the expert guidance of the amazing Shaolin warrior monks. As a result, each gained a unique insight into both themselves, Chinese life and culture, and how pushing themselves in such an intense way, both physically, mentally and emotionally, could have a profound impact on the way they see the world and themselves in it.

We looked at how each person undertook the program, to see how we could refine it and make it even better, to ensure that again, no matter what a person’s reason for attending, they would be sure to find exactly what they were looking for, and perhaps a lot more besides. What follows is a summary of what our 2017 programs will include, and how you can reserve your place on one of these once-in-a-lifetime experiences!

Updated April 2017: Our May program is almost completely full. We now only have 2 places left on our 2-week program. So if you would like to reserve your place, please contact us asap.

Introducing our Shaolin Temple 2017 programs

In 2017 we will be offering both 1 week and 2 week programs, in May and September. We will be leaving from Beijing on Saturday night, though still returning on Sunday of the following week. This allows for an extra day of training, including applications training at the Tagou Martial Arts School, something we didn’t offer in 2016.

Also newly added are a visit to the Shaolin Exhibition Centre to watch a Shaolin kung fu performance, and the opportunity to volunteer at the Shaolin Temple Orphanage.

The dates for 2017 are:

1-week program – May 20th to May 28th
2-week program – May 20th to June 4th

1-week program – Sept 9th to Sept 17th
2-week program – Sept 9th to Sept 24th

These programs are all-inclusive, starting with meeting participants in Beijing, then accompanying them down to the Shaolin Temple. While there, students will typically learn the Shaolin Tongbeiquan form in week 1, and if staying for 2 weeks, the Yinshougun stick form in week 2. These two forms are complemented by Yang style taichi in week 1 and qigong routines in week 2.

Something that sets our program apart from other similar courses is the fact that we have designed it to include as much in-depth and traditional training as possible, introducing as many aspects of true kung fu training as possible. That means training the 5 Concepts (Speed, Accuracy, Power, Hardness (Impact Conditioning) and Martial Intent (mental fortitude to do what you must) together, where as most schools only focus on the first three. Indeed, the last two are the most difficult for people to train, but without them, you are not really training martial arts.

Aside from the martial aspect of training, living in the Chinese rural environment during these programs, being exposed to the daily life and culture of the Shaolin Temple, having the opportunity to learn more about Chan Buddhism and really get an inside look at what Shaolin martial arts really mean, is what we, and our past participants, believe sets our programs apart.

CK Martial Hearts 2016 Reviews

We were so lucky to have such a diverse selection of people join us on our programs in 2016, and consider ourselves equally blessed by the wonderful things those people wrote about our programs after leaving.

CK Martial Hearts is where it's at!

You get to learn the history of what and where you're practicing along with other sights you venture to; and you control how much you do, but expect to be pushed to your limits physically, mentally, and even emotionally. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a different kind of challenge and experience.

CK Martial Hearts delivers and surpasses all its promises

Living and training on location was akin to stepping into a movie. The kindness and openness of the locals was heartwarming, their constant training a marvel, and access to the knowledge, spirituality, and discipline of the Warrior Monks in the Shaolin Temple, an inspiration.

It really teaches you to push yourself beyond your limits

Absolutely fantastic programme! Suitable for everyone; you can experience it at your own level of fitness and ability. I came to the programme with zero Martial Arts experience and had a wonderful though very challenging week. I can't recommend this enough!

“Amazing experience!”

If you're looking for a physical and mental challenge, this is the place to go, regardless if you have previous experience with martial arts. I can honestly say that through the training, I know I am capable of much more than I allowed myself to believe previously.

“Challenging, confronting, fun and amazing experience”

This not your normal day to day martial arts class. This is a once in a lifetime experience that will take you out of your comfort zone and push you to the limit while offering you a very rewarding challenge that’ll make you realize the limit is yourself.
